What it does

  • Requires the Minister of Health to work with provincial health and education officials and other stakeholders to develop a school food program for all children in Canada.
  • Sets out that the program must define healthy food using Canada’s Food Guide, build on existing school food programs, and use best practices from other places.
  • Requires the minister to assess whether Ottawa should create grants and cost-sharing with provinces so the program has little or no direct cost to children or families.
  • Promotes evidence-based healthy food education in schools across Canada.
