What it does

Lets courts order some sex offenders to report for 30 years, adds move reporting rules, and creates an offence for missing required reports.

What it does

  • Allows a court, on the prosecutor’s request, to order a person likely to reoffend to keep following sex offender reporting rules for 30 years.
  • Requires a person under that 30-year order to finish a province-approved sex offender treatment program before asking to end the order after 20 years.
  • Lets the prosecutor or the person appeal a court decision on one of these orders on a question of law or mixed law and fact.
  • Requires sex offenders to report to a registration centre every 6 to 7 months after their last report.
  • Requires a sex offender who plans to change their main residence to report to the proper registration centre within 7 days before the move and give the new address or location and date.
  • Creates an offence, punishable on summary conviction, for failing without reasonable excuse to report as required.

  • Sex offenders on the registry
  • People likely to reoffend
  • Courts
  • Prosecutors
