What it does

Adds sentencing rules for weapons offences near hospitals and blocks drug exemptions that would allow illicit use in hospitals.

What it does

  • Requires courts to treat it as an aggravating circumstance when a person convicted under Criminal Code section 88 had a weapon in or near a hospital, on or near hospital grounds, or in or near another public health care facility.
  • Prevents the Minister from granting a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act exemption that would result in the illicit or unprescribed use of a controlled substance in a hospital.
  • Confirms that this ban does not apply to prescribed use of a controlled substance in a hospital by a patient, if a practitioner authorizes and supervises it.

“Moved for leave to introduce Bill C-391, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (possession of weapons and drugs in hospitals). Under the radical and extremist Liberal-NDP government, our hospitals, once sanctuaries of care and safety, have become infested with chaos, drugs and weapons.”
