What it does

Requires registered charities to report counts of their officials in designated groups and creates a yearly public summary report.

What it does

  • Requires registered charities to say, in their annual information return, how many directors, trustees, officers or similar officials belong to each designated group under the Employment Equity Act.
  • Allows the Minister of National Revenue to use that information only to prepare the annual report or for deregistration procedures.
  • Requires the minister to prepare an annual report by June 1 showing totals for registered charities and their officials in each designated group, using aggregate data only.
  • Prohibits the report from naming any charity or any individual official, but allows extra information or analysis.
  • Requires the report to be tabled in both Houses of Parliament within 10 sitting days and posted online as soon as practical after tabling.
  • Allows a charity’s registration to be revoked if it does not provide the required information.

Who it affects

  • Registered charities
  • Charity directors and trustees
  • Charity officers
  • Minister of National Revenue
  • People in designated groups
