What it does

Creates faster approval and registration paths for some agricultural products and lets the Health Minister rely on foreign regulators for certain drugs and food.

What it does

  • Creates provisional and final approval or registration systems for feeds, fertilizers, seeds and pest control products already approved in at least two trusted jurisdictions.
  • Requires the minister or registrar to give provisional approval or registration within 90 days after a complete application, unless the product fails compliance checks.
  • Requires final approval or registration after an application is reviewed, if the product meets the law and regulations.
  • Lets regulations name trusted jurisdictions and lets decision makers rely on evidence from those jurisdictions when reviewing applications.
  • Lets the minister deem some Food and Drugs Act requirements met for certain therapeutic products, veterinary drugs or food, based on foreign regulatory decisions or documents.

Who it affects

  • Feed makers
  • Fertilizer suppliers
  • Seed companies
  • Pest control product companies
  • Veterinary drug makers
  • Farmers
  • Importers

“Moved for leave to introduce Bill C-273, an act to amend the Feeds Act, the Fertilizers Act, the Seeds Act, the Pest Control Products Act, and the Food and Drugs Act. The people of Alberta did not send me here to sit quietly while farms are run out of business by bureaucrats in Ottawa.”
