What it does

Creates a 30% non-refundable tax credit for certain corporations that buy qualifying heat recovery equipment.

What it does

  • Creates a non-refundable tax credit equal to 30% of the capital cost of qualifying heat recovery equipment bought by a taxable Canadian corporation after December 31, 2025, if required forms are filed on time.
  • Defines qualifying equipment as unused equipment for use only in Canada that recovers heat from industrial processes and converts it into energy, and is not mainly used to generate energy.
  • Reduces the credit for non-government assistance, and adds rules for later repayment of assistance, partnership allocations, and limited partners.
  • Adds a recapture rule, if the equipment is converted to another use, exported, or disposed of within the next five calendar years, the credit is added back to tax.
  • Excludes equipment that is a tax shelter investment, and makes related changes to the Income Tax Act to fit the new credit.

“Moved for leave to introduce Bill C-269, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (heat recovery tax credit).
